A Few Easy Ways to Reduce Credit Card Debt

You don’t need to make big changes in your lifestyle in order to reduce credit card debt. Small changes to the way you live can result in a lot of extra money that you can use to pay off debt and get on your feet financially. If you want to buy a home, retire, buy a new car, look for a new job, or do any of the things that you need a good credit rating to do it’s in your best interest to pay off as much of your credit card debt at possible. Here are some easy ways to get the money you need to pay off your debt without taking on a second job:
Cook meals at home - Eating out is one of the biggest monthly expenses for most families. Because most parents work they find themselves picking up breakfast or dinner for the whole family from the drive thru because it’s easier and faster than cooking at home. But you can save as much as $400 per month by eating at home. Instead of rushing through meals use mealtime as a chance for the whole family to spend some quality time together. Cook together and let the kids help clean up. You will save money, eat healthier food, and get more family time.
Wear a sweater- When the weather starts to cool don’t automatically crank the heat. Heating bills in the winter can be as much as 50% higher than they are in the summer. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars more to the electric or gas company in the winter turn the heat down and wear another layer of clothing. The extra money that you save can go towards reducing credit card debt.
Consolidate - Making one payment each month is easier for you and will reduce the chance of late fees, over the limit fees and other costs. Consolidate all your credit cards into one payment and make the biggest payment that you can manage each month. If you can make two payments that will pay off your debt even faster, since the second payment will be going entirely to pay off the principal debt.
